I get the economics of the bike shop. I am very grateful for the people with the gumption to stand a bike shop up. Shoot - tune ups, service plans, flat fixes and bike tubes helped to cover my bills for a long time. But I also felt comfortable in charging what we did for a tube. I never felt like we were taking advantage for a tube nor the service we provided. I was proud to have a customer come in with a bike and fix their flat on the spot knowing it was a quick fix. But when a customer comes in for a tube and it costs more than $10, that seems a little stout to me. I know the local shop is a great resource, but I am also aware when $10+ is a high mark up preventing me from going back.
