Visiting the park is a definite must for the history buff and just an all ‘round nice way to spend an afternoon. The park is easy to access and there's plenty of parking. You can either roam about Appomattox Court House (it's actually a small town) or you can go up to the Visitor's Center and jump on a tour given by a park ranger. I recommend a tour and then wander about the town. The ranger that gave the tour really made the day with his animated account of that date in history.
